Yeah that's pretty funny - calling me the childish one when YOU showed your
lack of vocabulary by using disguised profanity in your very first response.
Did you even check the new web page for the so-called "claims" I was asking
about? I've seen other posts on here that were obvious spams - with multiple
URLs in the message. More importantly, can you even answer the original
question I asked ? Are the laptops made by 3 - 4 primary manufacturers as
claimed on the web page, or is it just a bunch of hype? Which is it ? Can
you even formulate a polite, intelligent answer ?
How old are you ? About 12 maybe ? Younger ? Yep I'm guessing maybe 10. At
least intellectually. In this particular newsgroup all I've ever seen you do
is argue with someone. Have you ever actually helped anyone out ? Why are
you here ? Does it make you feel special to attempt to demonstrate how
intelligent you are ?
Whew! Gimme a break!

Must of hit a nerve!
If you are going to spam newsgroups, you need to have a thick skin.
Next time, at least try to be a little creative.

Nawww. I'm just continually amazed that you're too dumb to realize that I
was not spamming anyone.
Just trying to get an answer to a question - which I notice you are still
ignoring.
Whatever, bub. The fact is - this single thread is the closest I have ever
come to spamming on purpose:
a silly stupid flame-war. But it has been fun!

1. You posted a website that sells computers to a Usenet newsgroup.
2. The website you posted did not have the information you cited in your
post.
When you post a commercial website selling things to a Usenet group, it is
*SPAMMING*.
Next time, post a link to the exact information that you are posting about,
not to a commercial retail website.
And no, there are not only 3 laptop manufacturers in the world.

Well thanks for finally answering my original question. And yep - I could
have made this whole discussion much shorter if I had posted the actual info
instead of an URL containing the info. But, seriously, I have been using
Usenet groups for almost as long as they have been around, and have never
been called a spammer because I posted a *single* commercial URL. I even do
it quite often to let people in certain newsgroups know of a place to buy
particular kinds of items - although I guess in most of those they already
know me and know I am not there to spam. In this case I am simply trying to
get some information.
With all that in mind, here is the text from the web page I had hoped people
would find by going to the URL I posted:
"Basically none of the "Name Brand" manufacture their own laptops. The few
notable exceptions are Sony, Acer and Apple. Yet, they even do not
manufacture all of their own laptops. All of the so called manufacturers buy
their laptops from what is called an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM).
ODM - Original Design Manufacturers
ODMs are the true manufacturers who actually design, cast, and assemble the
main unit which includes the motherboard, outside casing, and display. A few
examples of ODMs are Quanta, Compal, Clevo, Mitac, Asus, Acer, Arima,
Uniwill (now ECS/Uniwill) -- perhaps you have never heard of these companies
before. But you have definitely seen their systems under other well known
brand names. ODMs are usually located somewhere in Asia, and may have
distribution centers in the US. ODMs distribute their product to Original
Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Each ODM sells its computers to many
different OEMs.
OEM's - Original Equipment Manufacturers
OEMs add the Memory, Processor, Hard Drive, Optical Drives and software to
the systems. The OEMs perform final assembly and stick their label (Brand)
to it, and call themselves manufacturers. Their products are then sold
directly to dealers/resellers like [INSERT BRAND NAME HERE] or directly to
the public (i.e. DELL). However most companies such as Dell and HP etc. have
their laptops assembled in Asia. Our OEMs are in the USA, assembled in the
USA and our 24 hour 7 days a week Toll Free Tech Support is 100% USA. Once
these companies add in these components, they have a complete laptop. They
then put their label on it and market it.
For example:
Clevo makes the Sager NP5960 and the Alienware Aurora mALX, the Voodoo
MClass M550, the Hypersonic Sonic Aviator, and they are all the same
computer.
An ODM named Compal makes some of the the DELL, Hewlett Packard and Compaq.
Quanta makes many of the Dell Latitude, Lenovo (IBM), and Sony Vaio laptops.
Inventec makes many of the Compaq brands.
Clevo makes most of the models sold by Sager Computer. Clevo is usually
first and on the cutting edge when it comes to gaming laptops.

So, your justification is "I was too lazy to post the actual URL I was
talking about" and "I have been doing it this way for a long time and I
ain't gonna change now"?
The page in question is somewhat inaccurate in several respects, and is
apparently an attempt by the author to garner favor from the OEMS he deals
with by painting them in a favorable fashion.
FYI...I have an HP laptop with a Quanta MB. I have a Dell with a Compal MB.
My wife has a Sony with a verio motherboard.
OEMS will use what best suits their specs at the price points they are
willing to pay. This means that they do not often stay with a single
supplier.
All of this could have been avoided by your doing a simple Google search.
Alternately, it could have been avoided by your asking about the 3
manufacturers without posting a commercial website.
It still smells of SPAM.

I FOUND the URL using Google.
Yep - I wish I had asked about the 3 manufacturers instead. If only I had
been *asked* to do so earlier ...
You're still wrong about the spam. Grow up a little. Bet your wife would
appreciate it.
