animation_image_doc.pro

This is a discussion on animation_image_doc.pro within the Idl-pvwave forums in Programming Languages category; I'm currently evaluating IDL and am working through the various examples in the documentation. I have tried the procedure "animation_image_doc.pro" and it does not seem to work. It complies without error or comment, but the window it displays is blank. Other animation examples (most notably "animation_doc.pro", which uses the same data set) work just fine. So, since I'm using "animation_image_doc.pro" as a way to learn about animating a set of images I'd like to know if others are able to get this to work or whether it's just something strange about my setup. running IDL version 7.0.3 in evaluation mode ...

What happens if you set DEVICE, DECOMPOSED=0 before you run
the demo?

Cheers,

David

P.S. Where are you finding this example?

Oh, never mind. I found it.

Try going to Windows -> Preferences -> IDL -> Graphics
and set the rendering method from Hardware to Software.
Does that help?

Cheers,

David

FWIW - I don't see the animation either. I tried both your
suggestions, too, David.

Don't see anything, or don't see the animation? I had to
hit the play button to see the animation. The first
frame is dark blue. I suppose it could look like there
is nothing in the window.

David

No Play button here - just a window with title: "Simple Animation"

Say what!? Are we talking about the same thing? I found
the program here:

G:\Programs\ITT\examples\doc\objects\animation_doc .pro

Here is what the application looks like:

Ah! Yes that one works fine for me, too. The as with the op, the one
that doesn't work for me is animation_image_doc.pro (in the same
directory)

Ah, I just got back from the eye doctor's. Guess I wasn't
a minute too soon. :-)

Well, the one everyone is complaining about works for me, too.
Although it is not in color.

Don't know what the problem is. I'm running some version of
IDL that is not IDL 7.0.1. 7.0.2, I guess. (Too old to figure
out the new IDL numbering scheme, and all those decimals are
blurry anyway.)

Cheers,

David

IDL> print, !version
{ x86 Win32 Windows Microsoft Windows 6.3 Mar 23 2006 32 64}

works just fine (I see an animated brain or alike)

IDL> print,!version
{ x86 Win32 Windows Microsoft Windows 7.0 Oct 25 2007 32 64}

gives me a white window, a "waiting" cursor... if I try to close the
window, IDL crashes.
