Outlook Lost Mailbox Lock error - IMAP
This is a discussion on Outlook Lost Mailbox Lock error - IMAP ; I have 3 users accessing the same account from Outlook 2000/XP/2003, and

Outlook Lost Mailbox Lock error
I have 3 users accessing the same account from Outlook 2000/XP/2003, and
they are getting a 'Lost Mailbox Lock' error whenever the automated
send/receive kicks off. I've updated to the latest UW-IMAPD, with no
improvement.
My best guess is that when User 1's Outlook is holding on to the IMAP
connection for the mail account, and User 2's Outlook logs in to the
same account, it kicks User 1 off, and Outlook complains. I have read
that converting to a user-based mbox system can help (mailboxes are
currently in the spool), I'm not sure it will have any effect.
Can someone tell me either how to configure Outlook to release the IMAP
connection when it's idle, or how to make the server play nice with
multiple user accounts? Or, if I'm way off base, feel free to set me
straight. Thanks in advance.

The UW-IMAPD server, in its default configuration, does not allow the same
folder to be opened by multiple clients at the same time.

As long as multiple clients attempt to open the same mbox folder, at the
same time, this error will continue to occur.

The only thing you can do is convert the mail folders to the mbx format, on
the server. This is a UW-IMAP-specific custom mail format that allows
concurrent access. You will find some documentation in the UW-IMAP package
with further information.
