FTP banner
Hi
When I make a telnet session to my FTP server on windows 2000, I get the
banner "220 server1 Microsoft FTP Service (Version 5.0)"
I want to remove that banner, and I have found an technet article nr.
826270, with some fixes that I should apply.
I have applied this fix, but I still get the banner.
Does anyone know where I can remove or change this. I have tried to make a
welcome message in the IIS snap-in, but it is first vissible when I log in
to the ftp server.
Regards

Re: FTP banner
I tested this on W2k3 before SP1, I applied the fix, change the
metabase.xml, reboot and it works.

Re: FTP banner
Hi Bernard
Yes on Windows 2003 you have the XML file you can change it in, but this
file is not on
Windows 2000.

You applied the hotfix and restarted the system? That *should* work.
If I rememebr correctly, there used to be a hex edit you could do to
the FTP.DLL to change this, though I've long ago lost the link. Check
the Google archives of the group and do a Google for "IIS FTP Banner"
or the like.
Note, an edited DLL isn't supported, and if it breaks your system too
bad.

Re: FTP banner
Yes, I know. where do you get the fix ? from MS. if yes you can ring them
back and ask for support as the fix is not working as it should be. I
blogged this last year and I believed I have seen users who can hide it with
the fix.

again. masking banner will protect your box and it might break some
application if it required detail from the banner info.
