open contents of web folders in edit mode

I am running IIS 5.1 on a XP sp2 PC. I have created an internal web site for
my staff. This site contains pages that are published from excel speadsheets
when edited by a designated employee. Originally the spreadsheets were
access via a shared directory, opened then edited and saved which published
to html for access from internal web site. I would now like to use the web
sharing tab of the directory to create virtual folder and have documents
accessed edited and saved/published from there. I am thinking in this way I
would need to open only port 80 inbound to the designated editing employees.
#1 is this correct or are there other ports required. Or maybe not even
possable?? #2 I have created the virtual directory and can connect from my
machine which ip and account have full access to web server file system and
have also connected directy at the localhost to for instance
http://192.168.0.5/directory/Extensions1.xls. When the document opens it
does so read only which defeats my purpose. Am I wasting my time with this
concept or can this be done. Note I have disabled anonymous access so I am
prompted for Integrated Windows Auth but still opens read only.

Port 80 is all you should need for WebDAV (web folders) to work in an
Intranet scenario. If you're using a browser, instead of typing the URL
into the address bar, go to File | Open..., type the URL, and make sure
"Open as web folder" is checked. That way, the location will be opened as a
web folder instead of in "normal" mode.
