401.1 error reported by an anonymous user but anonymous access is allowed and no other access problems have been reported

  1. Default 401.1 error reported by an anonymous user but anonymous access is allowed and no other access problems have been reported

    Hello,

    I have a website set up on a WIndows 2003 Server, IIS6.

I have one (anonymous) user browsing to our website and getting
prompted for a username and password and then getting the http 401.1
    error.

This isn't happening with anyone else that I know of....the website has
been accessed from many places, by many people with no problems and no
    prompts or access denied errors.

Anonymous Access is checked on website properties (including on the
default website) and the user is the default IUSR_machinename account.
Permissions are set to Read/Execute for the anonymous user account.

We recently moved our website to new nameservers and the DNS changeover
for our domain seems to have completed over the last 48 hours...is it
possible that this user's browser needs to have the cache cleared? Is
it possible that this is a local problem?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,

Look in your IIS logfiles to see if the requests are actually coming through
to your webserver. That would tell you whether the user's browser is
correctly connecting to your webserver or not...

    Cheers
    Ken
