XP search does not work
Hi,
I was redirected to this group to re-post my question. Still not sure if it
is in the right group.
I have Windows XP with Windows XP Service Pack 2. The search on "A word or
Phase in the file" doesn't work properly. I did some research and understood
how search on XP works differently than Win2000.
I went through the link
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q309173
to follow the Method 2 but it still does not work.
Here are my problems:
When I do the search on "A word or Phase in the file",
#1 - I noticed, in the .asp file, for anything included in <%...%> is not
searched
at all. It does search right on the text outside <%...%> in the .asp.
#2 - On the mapped network drive, no matter what word I put there to search
for, it never comes back any result.
Can you help?

RE: XP search does not work
Hi Beve,
This is an absolutely correct and 'by-design' behavior of indexing service.
Content enclosed in <% %> of ASP will be dynamically renderred at
server-side.
If indexing service returns the ASP source code, it will be a big security
flaw, isn't it?

RE: XP search does not work
Thanks for your reply.
How about my #2 question? If I mapped a network drive, can the drive be
searchable? I knew it is searchable on Windows 2000.

RE: XP search does not work
Hi Beve,
Please open Computer Managemenr->Indexing Service snap-in.
If you want to add a new directory in a catalog for index server. You
can't add a mapped drive but will have to use a UNC path. You will get an
invalid directory error when trying to use a mapped drive.
You can't use a mapped drive since the mapping will go away when you log
out of the machine. You have to specify a UNC path to be indexed if the
drive is not local.
