| We have a webmail server that we need to get a SSL certificate for. We have previously used self signed certificates, but are needing a signed certificate from an authority such as Entrust or VeriSign. My question is how can we keep the website up during the 3-5 days it takes to get the certificate. In order to create the CSR I have to remove the self signed certificate, but once the CSR is created the site will not work until I get the certificate back from the SSL authority. Is there any way around this? Or do I just have to deal with the site being down for 3-4 days? |

Until you get the real certificate, SSL traffic to your website is not trusted by anyone anyways. If that is critical to the functionality of your website, then you will need to deal with the site being down. //David http://w3-4u.blogspot.com http://blogs.msdn.com/David.Wang // |

You create the request on your server, go to Geotrust website, enter the request and payment details, an automated dialer calls you, tells you a pin, you enter the pin into your browser, it then completes the request and gives you the cert. You enter the cert on your server, away you go, happy as can be. Steve |
