Well, what settings can be there for a FPS game? Big wars like WWII,
Vietnam War, Gulf War etc., check. Futuristic settings like Unreal 2,
UT2003, Red Faction 1-2, check. Oddball settings like Serious Sam 1-2,
check. Horror settings like Undying or the two Call of Cthulhu games,
check.
I don't recall seeing that many western shooters though since Outlaws.
But would it really make much difference if the game was set to
western setting with rifles, old six-loaders, shotguns, old machine
guns, dynamite etc.?

And there's always WWI to explore...

I hear there is one called "Fuzzy Bunnies in Tickle Attack II" coming out.
It might fit your taste better.
DUH. How do you expect to _shoot_ at anything if it isn't a war or
something?

Someone needs to make a bounty hunter game. A present day, futuristic, or
Old West setting would work. I would prefer it to be present day. It would
need to be a slower paced FPS with really good AI and some Adventure/RPG
elements. Tracking the bounties would be a big part of the game. You could
start out with just a revolver and then purchase new guns and equipment with
the money you collect.

Try Armed and Dangerous. It is a long time since I fell off my seat
laughing at a FPS. For anybody with a Monty Python -style
appreciation of British humor and over-the-top action, this game
is a MUST !!! Stellar fun. Superbly programmed. A super
Christmas present for those jaded by an excess of WW2, Doom,
Half-life style shooters.
PlanetMoon folk must have had a ball developing this game. A real
breath of fresh air in a tired genre....................
Developed for the Xbox and PC. Excellent PC version. In-game
fully-configurable options, graphics, sound control. No need
to exit game even for resolution changes.
Check-point PLUS single-slot quicksave-anywhere in the PC
version.
Another one from the LucasArts stable, like the superb
SW:KOTOR. The developers, Planetmoon gave us
Giants: Citizen Kabuto.
The new game has a Havoc (game-engine ?) credit.
Now back to A & D; anybody want a cuppa tea ?

Duh, attempt to think outside the mindless shooter box, please. Oh and a war is HARDLY required for one to shoot something in the first place. Duh again. Attempt to think.

I LIKE the War Games, particularly WW II games. (BF 1942, Call of Duty,
Hidden and Dangerous 2) I say keep'em coming!
I do agree with need for more Western Shooters, though like the Great
Outlaws game. That is, if the Developers don't crap (meaning console) it
up....,

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, the physics properties
of items in the game are tested in various interesting
ways, some with very satisfying and frequently hilarious
results.
