Default JMS/Networking guru?

Hi
I have wanted to use JMS for some time. I have a client/.Server
application
both have swing GUIs. I need to display which client is connected and
which is not on the server's GUI. The display should update say within
10 seconds of such an event.

Does JMS have any such provision for detecting cliets status?

Also I had problems when using basic java sockets that it could not
detect a
disconnected client if the network goes down some where b/w the client
and
the server(i.e the connections is lost without closing the socket
properly)
(This being an inherent problem with TCP that it cannot differentiate
b/w dead
connections and a silent connection) .

So does JMS solve this?

thanks in advance
