While on the topic of Windoze-based Logo implementations why not speak to: (1) WINE <http://www.winehq.com> (2) Elica Logo <www.elica.net> (3) NetLogo <http://ccl.northwestern.edu/netlogo/> (1) As WINE allows *some* Windoze apps to run under/atop Linux it might be handy on the $100 hand-cranked unit. However, I don't know how much space it would take in the OS ROMs or wherever OS apps would be retained. (2) As Elica was developed for Windoze (and has, to my knowledge, not been ported to Linux) as was MSW Logo ... and has a 3D turtle space like MSWLogo, as well as a VCR-style method of running `canned', pre-existing logo programs, it too seems an appealing canditate for inclusion (to me, anyway). (3) As NetLogo allows networked logo users to `network', `share', and `contribute' over a wireless network and these $100 wonders are supposed to include networking features it would seem like the NetLogo camp would have a keen interest in seeing NetLogo up and running on these $100 Laptops. > Now that would be an attractive offer to include. It has occured to me that there will be an `original' `attractive offer' ... then aftermarket follow-up offers. Moreover, it seems likely that *some* logo developers while be motivated to cobble together versions of Logo which exploit the specific features of this hoped-to-be-Ubiquitous-Computing Platform. All for this one, Folks. Gene LogoForum messages are archived at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LogoForum |
