| I recently changed from IIS to Apache for Dreamweaver's testing server on my Windows XP system. Looking back, that's probably when previews in Firefox stopped working. As my sites are Flash only it wasn't something that bothered me much. But previews still don't work in Firefox 3, so I investigated and found that although Firefox works fine in other respects, it ignores any localhost URLs eg: http://localhost/mysite/noFlash.html So, although it's not Dreamweaver at fault I guess quite a few of you have encountered the same problem. Does anyone know the solution?! |

| Bob, My local testing Wamp5/Apache server stopped working too. Oddly enough it failed to work with any browser after FF3 was installed and one of the add-ons I use was updated. I think it may have been that Yahoo toolbar piece of trash but I can't be certain. So I deleted Yahoo toolbar. Temporarily disabled all other add-ons (Firebug, Foxmarks, etc....). Uninstalled WAMP. Removed wamp folder from HD. Reinstalled WAMP5/Apache. And now all my browsers are able to see localhost again. I'm still sorting out how to get DW to actually put my files to local testing server. DW sees them as updated but when I check from Win Explorer, they are not. So I'm manually copying files over from local site folder to testing server until I can work this out. HTH, --Nancy O. "Stopped working" is not a helpful error description. What happened? What didn't work anymore? Odd behaviour? Error messages? >I think it may have been that Yahoo toolbar >piece of trash but I can't be certain. The reason for the problem was/is definitely something else. Some more details might help. Micha |

| No server found at http://localhost/Sitename/ although server was definitely working. All browsers (IE6, Safari 3.1, FF2 and FF3) failed to find the testing server but DW could see all files on testing server fine. Testing server worked the other day. Stopped working after FF3 updated some add-ons. Which ones? I didn't pay much attention. FF3 Add-ons when this happened: Firebug 1.2.0b4 Foxmarks bookmarks synchronizer 2.0.47.4 Broadband Speed Test & Dx 1.1 HTML Validator (tidy) 0.8.5.2 IE Tab 1.5.20080618 Screen Grab 0.95 Image Zoom 0.3.1 Pallette Grabber 0.3.9 Snapshots 2.00 Yahooy Toolbar (I don't know the version, I took it off) --Nancy O. | Typically I haven't either. This from another newsgroup: "Nancy, I couldn't see WAMP in FF either - yet I could see it in DW. I am not certain this was the cause, but somewhere along the line I said 'yes' to the Yahoo Toolbar. When I uninstalled that, I had WAMP back. I don't know if it was the entire Yahoo Toolbar which caused the problem, but one of the things it loaded was Skype and Charles wrote something about their being a port conflict caused by where Skype loads as a default. I didn't investigate this, just removed the Yahoo Toolbar. " --Nancy O. There are various methods to access files on a machine. Direct file access and FTP have nothing to do with HTTP. >Testing server worked the other day. Stopped working after FF3 updated some >add-ons. Which ones? I didn't pay much attention. I really can't imagine a scenario where a browser update would kill a server on the same machine. This simply can't (or at least should not) happen. So either the server wasn't running properly, for example due to an already used port 80 (Skype may also use it, as mentioned in your other posting), or something screwed-up the DNS, so that the name 'localhost' couldn't be resolved. In either case there should be some error messages. Micha |

| Sorry to be picky, but my thread has been hijacked! I don't have the issues you guys are discussing. My local server works fine, Dreamweaver synchronises local files perfectly, IE happily previews my sites on the local server, Firefoxe works a treat as a normal browser, all is sweetness and light in my world. Except that Firefox, will not display localhost files. I just thought someone else might have encountered this tiny, specific, problem! |

| I'm using the easyPHP bundle (all in one installer... apache, php, mysql and phpadmin) and it works fine after updating FF2 to FF3. Only thing that annoys me is that I didn't install FF3 in a different folder so I could have them both. I don't have *ANY* toolbars from Google, Yahoo or anything else like that installed. Only thing I can think of is... have you defined FF3 as your preview browser within DW? Kim , but my thread has been hijacked! > > I don't have the issues you guys are discussing.
