I developed my own contract over the course of ten years of running a web
design business, and I offer it for sale along with an estimate worksheet,
proposal form, and other related forms. You can find out more on my web site
at http://www.WebDevBiz.com.
There are of course other similar products available; a Google search will
turn up quite a few.
Hope that helps,

Re: Need contract (template) for new web business
I will take a look at the forms you have, sounds like a great baseline for
myself to get going.
Also, where do I go to find out what the going market rate is for a new web
designer? I just completed my web design certificate and continuing on with my
degree. I created www.minoggiekennel.com as my first site. What am I
worth...? hahaha Thanks

Well, that's an interesting question that doesn't have a simple answer. I
have an article on the same site I just referred you on the subject of "What
Should I Charge? Finding Your Own Right Answer" -
http://webdevbiz.com/article.cfm?VarArtID=6 - which might help.
The subject doesn't get discussed much here, because some people feel that
talking about pay is not OK.

Okay I will take a look at your article, thanks for your viewpoint too.

Re: Need contract (template) for new web business
I see nothing wrong with discussing pay rate, other than the fact it causes
arguments on occasion :-)
I work for a publicly traded software company right now, and we charge $225 an
hour, with a typical project (the interactive design portion anyway) taking on
average 60-80 hours.
The company I worked for previously charged $105/hr for design and $125/hr for
PHP development. Projects ranged from 40 hours to several hundred depending on
the scope.
I currently do freelance work at the rate of $80/hr. The companies that I work
for currently and previously have strong portfolios and years and years of
industry experience. I myself have about a decade of experience, and can charge
appropriately.
So in short, you'll want to start out on the low end, build your portfolio and
gradually inflate your rate.
