Given that Adobe gave us all these extra Spry features that are largely useless or superfluous ( I'm quoting others around here - :-)) I haven't bothered with them ) - it's a mystery what they haven't added some really useful php behaviours. :-) -- ~Malcolm~*... ~* |

| DW gives you all the tools you need to do this: Authenticate user/Navigate Recordsets/Inset - Delete - Update Records/etc. It's your brain that has to put them together, but you would have to do that assembly yourself. -- Murray --- ICQ 71997575 Adobe Community Expert (If you *MUST* email me, don't LAUGH when you do so!) ================== http://www.projectseven.com/go - DW FAQs, Tutorials & Resources http://www.dwfaq.com - DW FAQs, Tutorials & Resources ================== "Malcolm _" <malcom@mon.org> wrote in message news:qeulb4h5t7lht4s3qj4i0gkq35lvvurpc4@4ax.com... > On Sun, 31 Aug 2008 14:15:20 -0400, "Murray *ACE*" > <forums@HAHAgreat-web-sights.com> wrote: > >>WebAssist has that cold. It would allow editing permissions, delete permissions, etc. I don't understand what you are asking about. You want a content management system? |

The only one I recall was explained in the Missing Manual book - but that used ASP - and I'm not going down that road as it's a backward step after starting to learn php. I don't ever recall this being mentioned here before - and why does David Powers go to lengths to write about it and do new code - if Dw can do it anyway. maybe it's just late ( 23:00 here ) and after a heavy day - my brain is fading :-) -- ~Malcolm~*... ~* |

Sorry Al - maybe I'm making a mess of this - a tool ( just like your menu tools ) that sets up an authentication system, so people can log into sections of a web site. Only for a hundred or so users ( a small society actually ). Nothing too secure - like money, credit cards, etc - but still relatively secure. And using php and relatively safe from hacking. And if it could avoid using a MtSQL database - so much the better. -- ~Malcolm~*... ~* |

Dreamweaver can create a user authentication system in a few minutes. What it can't do out of the box is server-side validation for a user registration system. -- David Powers, Adobe Community Expert Author, "The Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS3" (friends of ED) Author, "PHP Solutions" (friends of ED) http://foundationphp.com/ |

I would Google for a canned PHP solution. I would not use Dreamweaver if you want it to be really secure. -- Al Sparber - PVII http://www.projectseven.com Fully Automated Menu Systems | Galleries | Widgets http://www.projectseven.com/go/Elevators |

The DW provided solution to "protected page access" has a major flaw. It doesn't time out, and a session can survive a machine shutdown. If you use a tabbed browser which restores your pages on re-opening even after a machine switch off, you are straight back in to those protected pages. Not secure. It is not too difficult to "roll your own" solution to this using PHP and MySQL, if there is enough interest in this subject I could run up an article with source code. -- Ronnie MacGregor Scotland Ronnie at dBASEdeveloper dot co dot uk www.dBASEdeveloper.co.uk |
