Stroke Option Confusion

This is a discussion on Stroke Option Confusion within the Macromedia Fireworks forums in Adobe Tools category; Hello, I am a Fireworks beginner and I am trying to work through one of the Adobe Fireworks tutorials. At one point the tutorial has me draw a rectangle and then set the size and location parameters, etc. Here's my problem: my rectangle only shows two or three sides - not four. The stroke color is #B5B5B5 and the stroke category is set to "1-pixel soft". Can someone please explain what's going on and how I fix this? Thank you!! Ken...

Default Stroke Option Confusion

Hello,

I am a Fireworks beginner and I am trying to work through one of the Adobe
Fireworks tutorials. At one point the tutorial has me draw a rectangle and
then set the size and location parameters, etc. Here's my problem: my
rectangle only shows two or three sides - not four. The stroke color is
#B5B5B5 and the stroke category is set to "1-pixel soft". Can someone please
explain what's going on and how I fix this?

Thank you!! Ken

It would be easier if you could upload the image somewhere and provide us
with a link to it, but are you viewing the image at 100% ? Viewing it at
smaller sizes can sometimes hide the stroke.

Yes, I am viewing it at 100%. If I change the tip size from 1 to 2 then all
four sides of the rectangle show but one of the sides is thicker than the other
three. If I have the tip size set to 1 and the stroke option set to stroke
centered or stroke inside then only the left side and the top of the rectangle
show lines. If I have the tip size set to 1 and the stroke option set to
stroke outside then the left, bottom and right rectangle sides show lines but
the top does not. I'm completely confused...

Try changing the position of the stroke to Inside. It also sounds like
you may be having on of those "half-pixel" problems. This technote may help:

I did try stroke inside but I had the same results as when the option is set to
stroke centered. I'll follow the link you provided and see if I can figure out
what's going on. However, from scanning that article, it looks like it's over
my head. I'm an application developer not a designer so all of this is very
new to me. I can't believe that I've spent 2 hours trying to get four sides to
show up on a rectangle, though...

Ken,

My guess is that the sides are there but you can't see them either
because you are not looking at it at 100% (you already confirmed you
are) or maybe a non standard screen resolution?

I followed the tutorial and I am seeing all four sides.

Could you save the png file and upload it somewhere so we might take a
look at it?

Alex

Seems to be working fine for me....

http://fasterthanu.com/misc_images/rectangle.fw.png

This is the FWs png so if you want to open it with your copy of FWs and see
if it still all there. The stroke is centred on path Btu but I tried the
other variants and they seemed to work as well. What version of FRS are you
using?
