| I used to use the Marquee tool to select an area, then either cut/paste or copy/paste that area. I just started using FireWorks CS3, and the Marquee tool doesn't work that way. I select an area, but then I can't cut or copy it and paste it where I want. Does it function in a different way in this new version (I was using FW 4 before)? I know this has to be a simple question, but the FW Help file isn't helping. Thanks in advance to all. jd |

Make sure you have the correct image object selected in the layers panel. -- Linda Rathgeber - Adobe Community Expert -------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.adobe.com/communities/experts/members/8.html -------------------------------------------------------------- |

| The marquee tool is in the Bitmap tools section and only works on images, not vectors. If you want a selection of a Fireworks document, you can use a slice and export, or use the crop tool, copy, then remember to undo (or at least not save). |

| Thanks for your responses. This is simply a screenshot. I used to do this all of the time. Here are the steps. 1. Select area using the Marquee tool. 2. Ctrl + C to copy the area. 3. Ctrl + V to paste the area. 4. Either drag the pasted area to the place that I want to edit, or use the arrow key to move the pasted area. Why doesn't it work in this version? |

Mae sure the Pointer tool is selected when you try to move the new object. I have found sometimes, if FW has been running a long time, that the key commands seem to be ignored. Try using the menus for copy and paste, or restart FW and see if that helps. -- Jim Babbage - .:Community MX:. & .:Adobe Community Expert:. http://www.communityMX.com/ CommunityMX - Free Resources: http://www.communitymx.com/free.cfm --- .:Adobe Community Expert for Fireworks:. | Using the Select > Deselect was the ticket. I never had to do that in my older version of FW, but it works now. Thanks a lot!! |
