| Hello, we have an issue with Fireworks CS4 having some problems when opening AI (CS4) files and then exporting them to PNG. The steps to reproduce it are: 1. Create a file in Illustrator CS4, type some text, save the file in AI format. 2. Open the AI file in Fireworks CS4, the text appears ok at this point. 3. Save the file as PNG from Fireworks CS4 and close the file. 4. Open the PNG file in Fireworks CS4... and the text has been moved to "Y" coordinates 8-thousand-and-something. This is happening with Fireworks 10.0.0.495 and Illustrator 14.0.0. This problem might be related to the previous thread ("FW CS4 - BIG problems with text-engine!") but I'm adding this thread since that one seems to be dealing with files created originally in FW. | Sorry I posted this twice, it seems I can't delete the previous entry. Eduardo |

I just went through your steps and get as expected. Everything works as it should. What font did you use for the type Layer? h

Hi Eduardo, Even everything is working fine at my end. I opened AICS4 files containing lots of text and saved them as png files in Fireworks and re-opened them back. Could you send us the AI file which you are using here? Thanks, Arun

I can reproduce this error, but with an additional step. After opening the PNG as in Step 4, the text position is fine, it's even selectable in the Layers panel like normal. It's also selectable and movable on the canvas, as long as it's a single-click selection. Funny things start to happen only when you double-click the text on the canvas. The y coordinate increases to 8154, and the x coordinate changes 0.The text remains uneditable. For the testing I used a regular Arial 14 font, standard export from AI, standard import into FW, then the "Save As" option to generate the Fireworks PNG file. Program versions are exactly the same as Eduardo's. System is WinXP Pro SP2 running on a 2.6GHz Pentium machine. Also, I don't think it's related to the text errors in that other thread, since all text generated inside CS4 or imported from CS3 work fine in CS4 here.

Hi SiamJai, Thanks a lot for helping out! It seems only on double clicking the text object, the co-ordinates become large values as mentioned. Moreover this seems to happen with only AICS4 files. We have taken a note of this issue and will surely work on it. Meanwhile the workaround here is that we can choose that text layer and then manually enter the X and Y co-ordinates back in the Properties inspector such that it comes back on the canvas and can be worked on. --Arun

Ah ha - good catchSiamJai, I too also see this 'shift' on double click, with an imported AICS4 file. I also can't initially 'select' it with the Type Tool (single click) to make character changes, unless I use Aruns' workaround. h
