Rehoming public folders?
I am about to remove the first Exchange 2000 Server in my
site. It's a single site/single administrative group
environment There are currently two servers and all
mailboxes have been moved to server B. After reading MS
Knowledge Base Article 307917 step 1 a-j, I am trying to
rehome all public folders.
On my first attempt rehoming a public calendar,
I added server B to "Replicate contents to these Public
Stores" and verified "in sync" then removed server A.
Now under replication status, server A say's "Both
modified" server B say's "in-sync",
but the calendar is now emtpy! All appointments have been
erased!
Did I miss something? Is a public calendar treated the
same way public folder is?
Thanks

Re: Rehoming public folders?
Are you sure that all of the appointments have been erased or is it that the
data from the calendar has not yet replicated to the new server? If you
create a new test mailbox on the original server and logon do they see the
appointments in the calendar? I assume that the mailbox stores on each of
the servers are pointed to the public folder servers on their own server. So
the MBX stores on server A are pointed to the PF store on server A and the
MBX store on server B is pointed to the PF store on server B. You had
mentioned that all of the mailboxes were moved to server B so I am assuming
that the mailbox that you are looking at when you say that all of the
appointments have been erased is on server B.
Ensure that PF replication is working between the servers. Does the new PF
store that was crated on server B have a proxy address? Is there mail flow
between server A and server B? PFs replicate between servers using email
messages. Of course the PF store has to have a proxy address so that we
know where to send these replication messages and that there has to be mail
flow or we will never receive the messages.
Check those things. You can see if the PF store has a proxy address by
bringing up the properties of the PF store in ADSI Edit and then checking
the attribute called proxyaddresses.

Hope that helps.

Hi Jaclynn,
To answer a few of your questions..
Are you sure that all of the appointments have been erased
or is it that the data from the calendar has not yet
replicated to the new server?
Yes, It looks like the folder (calendar) replicated, but
the contents did not.
>Create a new test mailbox on the original server and
logon do they see the appointments in the calendar?
I created a new user on the original server. I went to the
calendar properties to give the user permissions and there
is no permissions tab.
The servers are pointed to the public folder corresponding
to their own server. The appointments have been erased on
server B.
I have yet to check adsi for the proxyaddress. (need to
download)
I decided to try it again with a different public
calendar. This time I made a copy of the calendar before I
replicated it to the new server. I got the same results,
empty calendar. I then just renamed the copied calendar to
the original calendar name and everything looks good.
I don't mind doing this for each calendar, but when I
totally remove the original server following the Knowledge
Base Article 307917, I don't want other issues to arise.
Thanks
