Exchange 2000 Default Public Folder Tree
I understand the Exchange 2000 Default Public Folder Tree is located in the
site that first had Exchange installed. My question is this. If the server
on which this is located (for this sake lets call it exch1) dies how would I
be able to recreate /move this Public Folder Tree onto another server (lets
say exch2) or would there be no need to do this ?
We have recently switched to native mode if that makes any difference as to
what we would need to do.
Any help or suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Are you currently set to replicate your PFs between servers? It isn't clear
to me....
Also, are you performing nightly online backups of Exchange?

Re: Exchange 2000 Default Public Folder Tree
Sorry about the vague detail, We have 30 AG's which have multiple servers in
and yes we do have replication of PF's to those other sites. Every server
does a full backup every night.
Someone said you can just drag and drop it even if the server is unavailable
? I am not so sure about that. I know you can drag and drop but what if the
server is not there say in a DR situation? Surely it needs to contact the
old server to complete the move ?

Re: Exchange 2000 Default Public Folder Tree
We had a similar situation, and it was when we tried to
replicate that we had problems - lost the whole public
folder and store (had it backed up of course), and still
can't rebuild a new empty public store because of
interdependencies between the public store and public
folders (in both directions apparently...?), and between
the two machines (old and new) setup by the replication.
I would be most grateful for suggestions, hints, advice
as to how to get a new, clean public folder on the new
machine.
Also, we're upgrading to Exchange 2k3 on Win2k3 very
soon - would we be unreasonable if we just hoped this
problem would go away during the upgrade, because E2k3 is
so smart about this type of recovery? Or on the other
hand, is this known by experience to be a very bad idea,
upgrading while there are such issues?
Thanks,
Red
