user not receiving off domain mail

  1. Default user not receiving off domain mail

    Hello,

I have a single exchange 2000 server running the latest SP
and hotfixes. Accounts on the server (same store) are
sending/receiving messages from on/off domain without any
trouble. I've recently added an AD account and the
exchange mail works fine within the domain, but will not
receive messages from off-domain. The off-domain sender
    receives the following message..

    Undeliverable
The e-mail address could not be found. Perhaps the
recipient moved to a different e-mail organization, or
there was a mistake in the address. Check the address and
    try again.

The MX records are configured correctly. I've compared
the AD account to other accounts within the same
information store and the configuration is identical. Any
ideas as to why this might be happening? Or does anyone
have any procedures for testing the account? I've checked
the Message Tracking Agent for the message and its not
hitting the mail server. The Message Tracking Agent can
be used to track messages sent to the account from within
    the domain.

Other accounts on the same server and information store
are working fine.. Sending/receiving messages from on/off
the domain. The problem is specific to this user for some
    reason.

    Thanks.
    Will

  2. Default RE: user not receiving off domain mail

By off-domain to you mean an SMTP sender that is not homed on your Exchange
Server or in your Exchange organization? If so I would start by sending a
message to this user using telnet. This will narrow down the problem more
as being external to your system or configuration on your system. You can
use the following article for telnet instructions=> 838049 HOWTO: Telnet to
Port 25 to Test SMTP Communication http://kb/article.asp?id=Q838049.
Also in the non-delivery report that the sender receives, what server is
listed as issuing the NDR, your server or some other? And when you send to
this user from another user on the same server do you send to the same smtp
address that you are sending to from the outside? Please post a reply and
how to continue will depend on your responses
