Setup failed while installing sub-component Information Store Service with error code 0x80072030

  1. Default Setup failed while installing sub-component Information Store Service with error code 0x80072030

I have both 2 lives servers and 2 test servers. The test servers installed correctly but my live servers do not (and I have tried remove & reinstall many times over)

For my live servers I have the primary and a bit old W2K/E5.5 and then a new W2K/E5.5 which I built a month ago. Both of these are Enterprise Edition of Exchange 5.5. Both are running W2K SP4 & E5.5 SP4

I have ADC running for the last few weeks

I have run /forestprep & /domainprep but end up finding out that in an org as small as mine that you shouldn't do that so I ran /removeorg (which gave an error about the forestprep component)

When I try to run the upgrade on the new W2K/E5.5 it runs well until it got to "Creating IIS Metabase objects for Information Store Service" at which point I got the error "Setup failed while installing sub-component Information Store Service with error code 0x80072030"

Here is the error from the setup log

[13:56:20] Creating IIS Metabase objects for Information Store Servic

Then I tried to run the upgrade again later and got the same error

I made a ghost image of this server. Ran the E2K upgrade and of course got the above errors. Restored from the ghost image. Then forced intrasite directory replication. (See Pic: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/ima.../f1325_BIG.gif

This brought everything back to the state it was at the time of the ghosting

I can try this a few times if needed but on the 3 times I have tried it so far it fails at the same exact point. If I could just figure out why it crashes here I could finally get past this and hopefully complete the upgrad

    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Mick

I have the same here with SBS2003 when trying to reinstall Exchange.

Did you find the solution ? Would be happy to see it ...

Ok, To fix this bogus IIS error (which appeared on my Server because the
original installation was failed - thanks a ton x64 bit version of
Windows 2003 Server - AND the IIS was never completed successfully)
    follow these steps:
    1. Reboot to get a fresh start
    2. Install the MS Exchange Management Tools (even though Exchange
hasn't yet successfully installed or recovered)
to do so follow this link:
    http://tinyurl.com/mek5h
    3. Run the MS Exchange System Manager tool
    4. Find your Server and then Remove it. At this point the installation
can be reran successfully, or recovered without that error appearing.
    Good Luck
