ADC and Windows 2003

This is a discussion on ADC and Windows 2003 within the Microsoft Exchange forums in Microsoft Tools category; I have a a upgraded network from win nt to win 2003 with exchange 5.5. Can I use the active directory connector on the exchange 2003 cd? is there one on the win2k3 cd? Also I have 3 sites with each one having a exchange 5.5 server. I gues I have to install a adc on each exchange 5.5 server that site's domain controller, is that correct? I currently do not have any exchange 2003 servers yet....

You should install the ADC from the Exchange 2003 server CD. There is not
one on the Windows 2003 CD.

You may want to download and review the Exchange 2003 Deployment Guide:
842762 The "Exchange Server 2003 Deployment Guide" guide for Microsoft
Exchange

I tried that but I get a error telling me I do not have the right to do it. I
have schema, enterprise, domain admin and exchange admin rights. Any ideas?

You should have all the permissions required. Give yourself Local Admin
permissions for the local machine.

schema update

Hi Ed,
If you are attempting to install Exchange 2003 you should be using the
Exchange 2003 Deployment Tools built into the Exchange 2003 CD.
These walk you through the steps to install Exchange 2003. You may also
benefit from downloading and reviewing the "Exchange Server 2003 Deployment
Guide" referenced in Q842762.

If at any point your install stops or fails you should get specific pop
error message and there should be a log file generated with more detailed
information. Typically this will be either the ExDeploy.log file or the
Exchange Server Setup Progress.log file. By analyzing the specific symptoms
you are having you can find a solution. The Knowledge Base is also an
excellent resource once you locate the specific errors you are dealing with.

There is a good chance your issue is a permissions issue. If you have
applied specific security templates to the server you plan on installing
Exchange to or to your Domain Controllers that could have something to do
with it.

Thanks. I was able to install it on a member server. Not sure why it would
give me a permissions error on a dc and not a member server other then a
security template for that dc. I looked there but I didn't notice anything
special. thanks for all of your help

Thanks for the update Ed.
I suspect the security template used for the Domain Controllers was
responsible.
