Migrate to Exchange 2003 questions???
I currently have a client with Windows 2000 domain. There are 2 DC's one
being the Exchange 2000 server. They want to upgrade to Exchange 2003.
Their thinking is to setup a dummy W2k server with Exch2000 and move the
mailboxes over and format the current server load W2k3 and Exchange 2003 and
then move the mailboxes back over. Does anyone have any tips or
step-by-steps for this??? Would anyone have a better idea?? Is an inplace
upgrade to Exch2003 a better route? Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Migrate to Exchange 2003 questions???
There are two ways:
1. Move mailbox: Install exchange 2003 in same exch org and nove mailbox to
this server, then remove first server from this site/administrative group
2. In place upgrade: I think, inplace upgrade on a DC should not be done
taking care of DC FSMO roles
3. Swing server: the one which you already have suggested, that is, install
dummy server and move all mailboxes/public folders to this,
reinstall/prepare the old server and then move back over.
if you have other free hardware, but you want to put exchange on old server
only, use 3rd method.
