mail not working to one domain, fine to all others
Details:
- Exchange2000 server on Win2k server SP3
- Email server is working, has been for 5 months now.
- All email is comming in fine
- All email is going out fine unless sent to
user@tmsg.sytexinc.com
if sent to user@tmsg.sytexinc.com mail stays in queue,
smtp logs stay empty, event logs stay empty.
I can send mail to the user from my personal account
hosted on an isp so I know the address is good.
I have configured my smtp to use external DNS servers
(and tried using without the external dns servers
configured, just using forwarders on internal dns)
A delay report is generated, then 48 hours later an NDR
is generated.
All mail from the tmsg.sytexinc.com domain is recieved
just fine
No MX record exists for tmsg.sytexinc.com (on any
internet DNS server I could find), however the host
record points to the firewall this company is using that
is passing mail back to the email server(raptor firewall).
So the question remains....why will exchange not connect
and send mail to this domain? Any help would be greatly
appreciated as I am at my wits end. I have contacted the
tech and he verifys his clients are recieving mail, and
he is not blocking anonymous traffic from my IP.
I have also established a telnet connection with
tmsg.sytexinc.com on port 25 and sucessfully sent email
to this user by manually going through the smtp commands
from Helo to quit....
I posted in the smtp forum but this one seems more active.

Re: mail not working to one domain, fine to all others
First, thanks for taking the time to respond, however, I
can send mail from my isp (itdude.net), which is how I
have been communicating with the admin from sytexinc.com,
so I know mail servers are sending to this domain even
without an MX record.
I can telnet into port 25 on tmsg.sytexinc.com from home
and send mail using IMC commands, however I cannot telnet
in from work. Since I can telnet to other mail servers
on port 25 I know my firewall is not blocking me, leading
me to believe either the ISP or the the company is
blocking traffic from my domain. Sound correct?

mail not working to one domain, fine to all others
Christopher,
What a relief I have the EXACT problem and tried the same
steps to resolve. The domain I can't reach through MS
SMTP is insel.ch.
Thanks for the post. Hopefully it can be resolved.

Re: mail not working to one domain, fine to all others
Mark,
Thanks for the response.
In my case, the message worked fine using Hotmail.com to
send...
Shouldn't the missing MX also give the same results using
Hotmail?

Re: mail not working to one domain, fine to all others
Christopher,
Also I would think that you would get a reply within
minutes (not 48 hours) if your domain name was blocked...
Something is not connecting...

Christopher,
Do you have an underscore in your sending SMTP server
name or domain name?

Re: mail not working to one domain, fine to all others
Well, I fixed my problem. My SMTP server was sending an
underscore (_) which works fine for everybody else but
does not conform to RFC2821. I changed the
SystemManager/DefaultSMTPVirtualServer/Properties/Advanced
/FullyQualifiedDomainName from server_1.domain.com to
domain.com. Checked against DNS and all mail is flowing...
Good luck on your issue.
