    Hi,

The person that can not send mail to external addresses, are they using POP3
/ SMTP to send / receive their mail?

If so, have the go to the properties of their mail account, on the Servers
tab, there is a setting for "outbound mail" which is "my server requires
authentication". Put a check in this box. You can leave it set to "Same as
incoming". Once this is set, have them try to send again.

If the above does not work, what are they using to send/receive their mail?

What is the error that they are getting?

    Best Regards,
    Beth

We are using SMPT on a WAN. All this user's settings
appear to be the same as everyone else. He gets no error
messages and to him everything looks good. Noting in his
outbox and the sent message appears in his sent items with
no errors at all. The messages just never get there. He
never gets a delivery failed messsage or anything. Thanks
soooooo much for your time on this.

    Hi,

What I would like to do is a test, first, can you enable message tracking?
In Exchange System Manager, expand the Server container and go to the
properties of the server. On the General tab, put a check in the Enable
    Message Tracking.

Next, have the user send a message to an outside address. Have them send a
second message addressed to both an inside address as well as an external
    address.

Now, at the Bottom of Exchange System Manager, expand the Tools and click on
Message Tracking center. Select Sender and choose the user. Make sure the
Logged Between encompasses the last few minutes and hit Find Now. Does it
find the messages? If so, click on each one and it will give you all the
steps that the message has gone through. Can you tell me what the steps are
    that it completes?

    Best Regards,
    Beth

Thanks so much for your reply - the user reported to me
that suddenly he can now send outside e-mail. I don't know
what caused the problem and I don't know what 'cured' it,
but thanks a lot for your help.
