SMTP incoming messages

  1. Default SMTP incoming messages

    Hi,

I have a front end back end mail configuration. Exhcange 2003 SP1/ Windows
2003 SP1. every thing was working ok. we have a group of ursers who have mail
boxes on another server, which is not exchange server, and they have
forwarded the mails from there to their mail boxes here. everything was
working ok from almost 8 months. not it seems that the incoming mails
forwarded from the other mail server dosent each our server. If i go to my
mail account on that server( using webmail) and send a mail to my account it
comes through. but if any mail comes to that account, it dosent get forwarded
to my mail server, it seems at if it is leaving the server. How do i know if
it reaches my mail server or not. how do i trace it.
    Thanks
    Bejoy

    Hi,

Try to enable message tracking on the exchange server and see if that helps
    troubleshoot the problem.

    Hi again,

Next step is to enable SMTP logging. If you don't see it here you will need
to have a look at the other server.

    Thanks Again Leif,

I have checked the SMTP logging and there seems no trace of these mails. I
even did a network trace and there is not specific trace about these mails,
although i can see mails from other servers. So should i conclude these as
problem with other mail server or can i do some more indepth troubleshooting
to try and say it is there problem.

    thanks Again,

    Bejoy

    Hi,

If both SMTP logging and a network trace reveals no traces of the mail the
proble MUST be on the other server.
