| Hi all, I'm running Exchange Server 2000 and would like to migrate directly to Exchange 2008? Any issues or considerations with doing this? Thanks, Mike |

Moving from 2000/2003 to 2007 is a migration process sinc eyou can't upgrade anything. It consists of mailbox moves and PF migrations. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...EXCHG.80).aspx is a decent starting point for you. |

| Thanks Mark. Yes, I meant 2007, but running Win2008 Server sorry. It would be a migration and take place on different servers obviously as well. I was wondering what the easiest migration is and what's possible; co-existence of both servers and transfer, bring entire databases over to new server, or exmerge. I'll read the article you reference. Thanks, Mike "Mark Arnold [MVP]" <mark@mvps.org> wrote in message news:tle2641cc39ubf4do81vdnh5fhlcb60inh@4ax.com... > On Tue, 24 Jun 2008 11:50:37 -0500, "Mike" <nospam@test.com> wrote: > >>Hi all, >> >>I'm running Exchange Server 2000 and would like to migrate directly to >>Exchange 2008? | Hi Mike, I would prefer to setup a coexisting situation, if you check the link what Mark has wrote in his previous message. You can find this article: "Coexisting with Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange 2000 Server". In this article you can find the necessary information to do this migration. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask me. -- Best regards, Raf Nijs "Mike" wrote: > Thanks Mark. | Well, you cant bring the stores over to the Exchange 2007 server, they are not compatible. So a migration would be your best bet. Bring up and Exchange 2007 server and move... So, only option is to work with import-maibox cmdlet (again this is introduced with E2k7 SP1). Hence i would bet upon the best migration method would be to work with 4 step method. 1) Install E2k7 box 2) Move mailboxes 3) Move Public folders / system folders. 4) Move rest of the configurations (such as Send Connectors, OWA redirection, MX record etx) |

| You can exmerge out of a 2007 server. Sure, it's not supported but exmerge has never been supported. Sure, the export-mailbox is the right way but remember you need to do that on a workstation with Outlook and the Exchange tools on it as well. |
