Default No out-going email?

Hi,

Running Exchange 6.5 sp2, it's been running for years. I'm finding now that
my email messages are not getting to the outside world

I sent a test message to an outside email address and used the message
tracking center to see what happened. The tracking center shows my message
was routed and queued for remote delivery.

We use Surfcontrol Email filter so I checked for my message there, no sign,
it doesn't look like it's getting to the filter program.

My question is then, where do I find the queue that Exchange is using for
the outgoing delivery? How can I see if there are messages in that queue
waiting to go out or if it's empty and I've lost my messages?

Thanks in advance,
Linn

Hi,

You should be able to see the waiting messages under queues. If they are not
there I believe that they are delivered to your smart-host.

Hi Leif,

Ok, yeah I found the Queues folder after I sent this message. Normally
these queues should be empty right? Except for any currently processing
messages that is. I'm seeing a lot of messages there, including my test
messages from this morning, so I'm guessing the smart-host isn't accepting
them.

How does the smart-host know to pick up the messages? Does exchange know
how to contact the smart-host or does the smart-host know where to look in
the Exchange system? I'm not that familiar with how the whole
email/Exchange configuration goes.

Thanks much,
Linn

Yes, the smart host is our server. Actually, what I did was to reinstall
the SurfControl system on a new server, the old server needs to be retired.
Got that all setup and redirected Exchange to the new smarthost and it looks
like everything is stable once again.

Thanks for the help,
Linn
