| All, I remember reading way back that with Antivirus you want to not scan certain drives on Exchange. Does the same thing apply for Defragmentation of drives. We are running Exchange 2000 and have 3 data drives, (F, H and G), and quorum, Q. Is there any problem with defragementing those drives using the Windows 2000 defragmentation tool? if so, is there a way around it to deframent specific parts of a drive? Thanks in advanace. Gordon |

Why is it you think you need to? Suffering performance problems or something? |

| When looking at the drive with MS Disk defragmenter, it is 95% fragmented and if I add it up, 80% of that is STM and EDB files. The Exchange server runs maintenance and defragments, but the drive itself is fragmented. | Unless you are suffering from noticeable performance hits you shouldn't bother. If you are then backup the Exchange (online). Then backup the disk with the Exchang eservices offline and then defrag normally. |
