I don't think you'll see a patch for Money 2007 for this... unless it's
called Money 2008 :-)

I don't think there is a bug in Money 2007 that works as he
describes. He repeatedly claimed that "All backup files are kept".

He says he is doing a backup on exit to his hard drive. That implies
it is not a drive that Windows considers removable.

To test to see if you could reproduce his claim, you could open a
Command/DOS window, change directory to the folder where the Money
files are, and enter this command:
dir *2007*.mbf
Note the number of files, which presumably is the same or more than
the number of files entered for "Keep only the _ most recent backup
files." The "dir" command lists the number of files for you; there
is no need to count manually.

Open Money and close Money, letting Money create a new backup. Do
that same "dir *2007*.mbf" command as before, and not that the
number of files has not increased.

I suspect his expectation is that if he has 20 files and sets the
number to 4 that he have only 4 afterwards. Money deletes no more
than one to compensate for the one it just wrote.

I had originally assumed he was referring to the backup to a
removable drive, because there is such a bug in Money 2007. But I
don't think there such a bug for the backup upon close to the
non-removable hard drive.

I have been using Money program for 7 years now. I went from 2004 to 2007.
I used to easily backup on a floppy. Now with 2007 no matter what I do, I
can't back up on a dvd or cd. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are you trying now? At what stage do you have a problem? What
OS are you using?

Most people suggest backing up to a USB flash drive.

Default Re: Backup Settings

Cal,
I'm so fed up completely at this point with PCs, I'm probably buying a Mac,
but in the meantime.............This is my 7th pc(4th Dell).

Aside from other unbearable issues(software), I still have to solve on other
Microsoft discussion groups, I will address one problem at a time.

My Money program is set up to update to my bank from the money site. It
recognizes most of my accounts with the exception of one. I can't figure why
it won't recognize it.

The problem of not being able to save is when I'm ready to close out, it
asks me to save in two different places. Normally on the second, I would
have hoped to save on a removable media, but it keeps saying c: drive. I've
already saved on the first step on the hard drive.

So now what?
I use XP.
I've never owned or used a flash drive. I assume those are the tiny little
travelling items. Is this better to use than cds or dvds?

Yes, they can travel. I have one on my keys. But they can stay at
home. They are often on sale. 1 GB (1000 megabyte) used to be a big
one, but they are now often available for under $20. Your friends
probably have 250 megabyte ones sitting in a drawer because they
moved on to bigger ones.
