| Version Money 2006 Deluxe I created these before I had read how to do it properly here on this forum. Now trying to correct... When I attempt to Delete them (Portfolio Manager->'common tasks'->'work with investments'-> 'delete an investment') They disappear from this list and show up as ‘Closed’ in Accounts list. And they still show up in Reports/Bond Performance. When I now try to delete them (Account List -> change account details -> Delete an account) I get this error message: Details Product: Money ID: obres:34 Source: 15.0 Version: 15.0 Symbolic Name: errUnknown Message: This operation cannot be performed. Explanation Usually caused by a corrupt file. User Action Run the Money File Repair tool to fix the problem. So wondering now if I need to use the File Repair tool really, or more likely, I've overlooked something like an open position? |

| Still get the same error message. I didn't try the Standard File Repair yet because it asks for more specific file info. Do you recommend this as the next best step? Or something other? | If I go to INVESTING -> PORTFOLIO MANAGER -> WORK WITH INVESTMENTS -> DELETE AN INVESTMENT FROM ALL ACCOUNTS I get the error: 'You need to close the positions before you can delete the investment.' Maybe this helps clarify what I've done? | This is normally caused by still owning a very small fraction of a share in some account. | If you go the "Account Summary" for your investment account, does the investment appear there? f so, it means there's a small fractional amount and the position is open rather than closed. -- Michael Gordon "rmw" <rmw@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1E13BE22-8A9B-4EFC-B0AD-D9B3634B4815@microsoft.com... > If I go to INVESTING -> PORTFOLIO MANAGER -> WORK WITH INVESTMENTS -> > DELETE > AN INVESTMENT FROM ALL ACCOUNTS > I get the error: > 'You need to close the positions before you can delete the investment.' > Maybe this helps clarify what I've done? > > "Michael Gordon" wrote: > >> I'd start with a Quick Repair >> >> -- >> Michael Gordon >> >> >> "rmw" <rmw@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:4E332779-C823-48BF-97FF-2B6094BCF3DF@microsoft.com... >> > Version Money 2006 Deluxe >> > >> > I created these before I had read how to do it properly here on this >> > forum. >> > Now trying to correct... >> > >> > When I attempt to Delete them (Portfolio Manager->'common tasks'->'work >> > with >> > investments'-> 'delete an investment') They disappear from this list >> > and >> > show up as 'Closed' in Accounts list. | I put in a Remove Shares and now when I view Account Summary under Review Your Portfolio it's not listed. But when I look at work with accounts: delete an account, open or close an account, it's there. I can delete the Remove Shares, but not the original Buy position. Just get the error message: This transaction cannot be entered. And when I try to delete the account from Account List just gives the error message: this operation cannot be performed. By bringing the account balance to zero it doesn't affect my reports but it's still there... frustrating. You might have some very small fractional shares in any one account that Money rounds to 0 for the purpose of the Account Summary. If true, it won't show up. To determine if that's true, edit the final disposal transaction in each affected account to Qty 0. Copy the recorded qty to the memo to restore it later. Go to Account Summary, adjust the qty to 0, and look at the resulting remove shares transaction. Does the remove shares qty match the previous disposal qty exactly? If not, that's possibly a source of your problem. Delete the remove shares transaction and edit the disposal transaction to use the qty of the deleted remove shares. Check all accounts where you held that stock because that account might not be the only source of the problem. Please report back as to whether this helped. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| I made the remove shares number equal exactly the buy shares number. The account value is now zero and the Account Summary page reads: 'This account currently has no investments in it.' Not sure if that's what you mean by this part? "Chris Cowles" wrote: > To determine if that's true, edit the final disposal transaction in > each affected account to Qty 0. Don't 'make' the remove shares number equal exactly the buy shares number. Adjust the total shares in account summary to zero, and let Money determine what the remove shares quantity should be. Under some circumstances, it might be infintesimally different from 0, but not 0. This may not apply to your situation. It is a suggestion for a means to discover why Money won't let you delete the investment. |
