| I downloaded the Money Plus 08 trial to give it a shot. My bank is Navy Federal Credit Union and when I look at my account listing online at the banks website, I see my transactions listed by the name of the place I spend my money i.e. Walmart. However, when it loads into Money, they are all listed as "POS Debit - Visa." Is there something I can do within the program, with the exception of hand keying each one, to see the register transaction listing by name? Or is this a thing with NFCU? Thanks |

What you should do is Go to Accounts&Bills->Categories&Payees->Payees->PreferredPayeeNames or Banking->AccountTools->Categories&Payees->Payees->PreferredPayeeNames which shows how downloaded names are translated into Payees. Record the Payee Name Variation(s) shown for the wrong payee. Delete the entries that correspond to the wrong payee. Then click on GoToPayeeRulesManager. Excluded Payee Names identifies words and phrases that should be ignored from the payee field (e.g., POS Debit - Visa, check, deposit). Add each word or phrase that was listed as a Payee Name Variation that you recorded. While you are at it, it is usually a good idea to select Tools->Options->OnlineServices->ReplacePayeeNames.... Tools->Settings->OnlineServiceSettings->ReplacePayeeNames.... You probably want to set Tools->Settings->OnlineServices->AddADescriptionToTheMemoField |

I see you are the resident expert, so thanks again for taking time out of your day for all the free advice. I followed your suggestions, no luck. I still see my two major entries "POS Debit - VISA 2214" and "POS Debit - VISA 3086." Basically, these are mine and my wife's sharecheck (Visa Debit) cards that we use for all transactions. It is a rather large list. I am also trying out Quicken 2007 (I own that one) and that web connects in the background, sort of, to Navy Federal and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. However, it does pull down the names like Food Lion, Walmart, etc instead of POS Debit. So I know the bank is at least providing it. Will the changes you suggest maybe not change existing transactions? Nothing new today as it is monday? Thanks for any help. I would rather keep and buy money at this point because of the background web connect so I don't have to download individual files for many accounts. |

Will the changes you suggest maybe not >change existing transactions? No. Tools->FindAndReplace should be useful for changing the Payee or Category of a bunch of transactions. You will want to experiment with that. When doing experiments, it is good to either do the experiment on a copy of your file, or be willing to File->Restore a backup to undo something. You could also go to the Categories and consolidate using Move. But if the transaction comes in with a Payee such as "POS Debit - VISA 3086", Money will not then look to the Memo or other distinguishing feature to fill in a proper Payee. I don't use a debit card, but credit card payees come in fine for me. > Nothing new today as it is monday? Thanks >for any help.
