| Anyone here recommend a good editor for sml coding for MacOSX? I have mainly been just using vi in a Terminal window which is fine for most things, however, I think it would be nice to have something which did syntax highlighting/coloring and auto indent, for example. Any recommendations? |

Well, Emacs of course, Stefan "Maintainer of the sml-mode package" |

I personally use [X]Emacs with sml-mode (and a couple of additional modes (esml-mlb-mode and def-use-mode) that I wrote for working with MLton (http://mlton.org/Emacs)) to edit SML code. While sml-mode mostly works, I think that it has some rough edges. -Vesa Karvonen |

Emacs has an SML mode that can do indenting and syntac colouring. Torben |

| I'm working on one, to be called Ped. Not quite ready yet. In the nonce, consider emacs and look around for the sml/nj plugins that you desire. |

I use Aquamacs (with the SML mode available from www.smlnj.org), but that's because I use emacs everywhere else. Emacs is an acquired taste. -thant |

| Just to be different, let me recommend BBEdit, an excellent editor with no support for the Mayan calendar. For syntax colouring, you can download a Standard ML language module from <http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~lp15/MLbook/general.html> Larry Paulson |

Does BBedit auto-indent code as well? Not exactly a deal breaker but I do like that feature of many editors. |
