| Two points: I'd bet that there was a copyright to the logo at some point, status now just as fuzzy as the MDC itself; but that was also back before there was much awareness of copyleft options. I wonder if there is a way to apply a creative commons license to it at this late date? Second: This stylized M also predated the internet, www, and easy computer graphics. It worked well on a magazine cover. But it does not scale very well. Try resizing it from 160x136 down to 80x or 40x... It doesn't work as well in the 21st century as it did back in the '80s. regards all, jlz On Jun 12, 7:20 am, Ed de Moel <dem...@jacquardsystems.com> wrote: > > Ed de Moel, what are your thoughts? > > > John Covin > > former MTA Board member > > My recollection is that the MTA granted rights to use the logo for the > purpose of advanding awareness of the technology. > Since it looks to me that this is exactly what is going on here, > it should be OK to use the logo. > > Ed de Moel > (also a former MTA Board member) > > -- > ************************************************** ************ > This electronic mail transmission contains confidential and/or > privileged information intended only for the person(s) named. > Any use, distribution, copying or disclosure by another person > is strictly prohibited. > ************************************************** ************ |

I guess that if someone really wanted to use the logo, they could invest the time to create a scalable version using the various samples that are available on the various M[UMPS] related websites (CAMTA, NEMUG, etc). Just my $0.02... | I attempted to post a message with an attachment, but my ISP didn't like that... So I placed a scalable version of the logo at http://71.174.62.16/demo/MLogo.svg Enjoy! Ed |

| I see the XML, and it makes a nice "M" but I'm sorry that I don't know how to use this to render a scaled down version, say 200x170 or 100x100? Thanks, johnleo On Jun 13, 4:13 pm, EdM <dem...@jacquardsystems.com> wrote: > I attempted to post a message with an attachment, but my ISP didn't > like that... > So I placed a scalable version of the logo at > http://71.174.62.16/demo/MLogo.svg > |

With Konqueror 3.5.9, it shows the logo but not the controls. With Konqueror 4.0.5 it shows the controls and a grey area labelled M[UMPS] Logo. Regards -- Bhaskar |

| Bhaskar, According to the source, the page loads its SVG viewer from Adobe... no linux version. Ed: Very cool. thanks. I stand corrected on the scalability of the logo. :-) jlz > > > What a perfect excuse to do this: > > * *http://71.174.62.16/Demo/MLogo > > [KSB] Ed, it did not work for me (Firefox 3 on Kubuntu Linux 8.04) - > it shows the controls but not the logo. *With Konqueror 3.5.9, it > shows the logo but not the controls. *With Konqueror 4.0.5 it shows > the controls and a grey area labelled M[UMPS] Logo. > |

| The image source at http://71.174.62.16/image/scratch/MLogo00000189.svg works under linux Firefox, XP Firefox and Opera, but not Explorer. And Gimp loads it too. :-) jlz |

Thanks, John. Yes browsers other than IE have their own SVG renderers. For SVG files, instead of loading into Gimp, consider Inkscape (http:// www.inkscape.org). It's FOSS with binaries available for all popular platforms and packages for popular Linux distributions. Gimp is more suited to manipulating photographic images. Regards -- Bhaskar |
