The SAIC Health Solutions Business Unit/ Healthcare Advanced Programs
currently have an opening for a Principal Software Systems Engineer.
This position will play a substantial role in supporting the health
systems transformation, collaboration and modernization efforts of the
Dept of Veterans Affairs (VistA) sponsored initiatives. This position
can be based out of either Falls Church, VA; Austin, TX; or Chicago,
IL.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide senior technical support to the HSBU on all Veterans Health
Administration (VHA) related programs that require an understanding of
VHA's network and computing platform architectures. Work as the
Principal Software Systems Engineer (VistA) on a large project to help
ensure that project objectives comply with and meet the VHA's
architectural direction. Provide technical leadership on programs that
involve re-architecting the operating environment and computing
platform on which VHA systems execute. Works closely with the Chief SW
Design Engineer and with business development personnel and support
the development of the technical solutions that will become part of
proposals to the VHA. Will develop and be responsible for strategic
components of an overall architecture, and incorporation of an
interoperable framework supporting customer initiatives. Past
performances with best of breed products analysis required.

Perform technical planning, systems integration, verification and
validation. Cost and risk analysis, supportability and effective
analysis for total systems. Total system product may include concept
design, testing, installation, operation, and maintenance. Functions
as the technical lead for design and implementation activities for VHA
(VistA) specific components of overall project. Implement strategic
technical direction. Work on complex problems. Oversee the
preparation, presentation and follow-up of major projects. May be
responsible for the technical direction, leadership, and training of
less experienced staff. Act independently to determine methods and
procedures to be used on new assignments. Establish operational
objectives and assignments and may delegate assignments to subordinate
staff. Establish and recommends changes to policies or processes that
affect the organization. Regularly interact with management on matters
concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in related field and 8+
years related experience of which at least 3 must be specialized. Four
additional years of experience may be subsituted for the bachelor's
degree. Specialized experience includes: technical leadership of
Systems Engineers and the use of structured analysis design
methodologies and/ or design tools in the development and
implementation or large projects. Advanced degree preferred. Must be
experienced with MUMPS (M) and strongly prefer current experience with
VistA/ VHA Fileman/ RPC broker/ VistaLink and familiarity with
rational tools and understanding of current common services.
