Default Announcing EsiObjects V4.2.0.8...

It's been a while since the last release. However, Jerry Goodnough and I
have decided to put a great deal of effort into reviving the EsiObjects
project. As a result of this effort we would like to announce the release of
EsiObjects V4.2.0.8 Release Candidate 1. The kit for Cache and GT.M can be
downloaded from http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/esiobjects as well as
the new client kit.

It includes the following major enhancements:

1. The intellectual rights to EsiObjects has been transferred to Jerry
Goodnough's company Stormwoods LLC. Consequently, all copyrights have been
changed.
2. Merge of all enhancements made at customer sites over the last few
years. Most are transparent and create a more solid implementation.
3. IDE enhancement that includes Special Export commands for generation of
SVN/CVS workspace exports. Any part of an EsiObjects development structure
can be exported as normal export or text representation files to the file
system. This is a great enhancement that permits version control at the
project level.
4. All software and documentation files for the EsiObjects project now
reside within the SourceForge SVN
(https://esiobjects.svn.sourceforge.n...oot/esiobjects)
5. All released plug-in packages have been submitted to the SourceForge
SVN. They are:
(a) EsiORB - a CORBA ORB implementation.
(b) EsiDoc - an abstract document management package.
(c) EsiParser - an ANTLR implementation that takes a EBNF file and
generates an EsiObjects parser for that specification.
(d) EsiQuery - an OQL implementation.
(e) EsiRules - the start of a rules engine.
6. All documentation has been enhanced to reflect software changes and
enhancements.
7. The Getting Started tutorial has been modernized and split into two
tutorials:
(a)Getting Started - which contains an introduction to Object Orientation
and a descriptive list of all EsiObjects features. Along with the White
Papers at www.esiobjects.org, evaluators can get a quick overview of
EsiObjects.
(b)Tutorial - which is the main comprehensive, on-line tutorial for
programmers.
8. Security enhancements have been added providing for a more secure
development environment.
9. Use of xinetd on GTM-Linux systems has been included to eliminate having
ports open and to increase application security.

Ongoing work will include:

1. Bug fixes and new releases.
2. Installation of the latest EsiObjects client using InstallShield.
3. ANTLR EBNF representation of the EsiObjects language. We will use this to
build in code renditioning for the editors, "pretty' code conversion, etc.
Since the EsiObjects language is based upon the 1995 ANSI MUMPS
specification, there will be two releases of this work. First, the full 95
Standard will be released for those in the community that may want it and
then the EsiObjects release will follow. The 95 Standard is almost complete.
I would certainly welcome help from any of you language gurus :-)
4. Bundling EsiObjects and GT.M as one bootable and installable system.

Please use the appropriate SourceForge forum for discussion or reporting of
errors.

See you all at the GT.M+PIP Technology Exchange:
