Default How to filter mail when you don't have access to the Mail server?

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get my local procmail + mutt to filter my mail and move
it into local mailboxes. I connect to a Sendmail server via SMTP.
Can it be done?

+----------+ +----------+
| SERVER | SMTP | CLIENT |
| Sendmail |==========>>| Procmail | +--- [INBOX]
| - No | | mutt --|--|
|Procmail- | | | +--- [Filtered Mail]
+----------+ +----------+

So in clear, what I want is to be able to download all the mail From
my Server and have my *local* procmail filter it into seperate local
mail folders.

As I said, I have no access to the Server so POP is out of the
question

Many thanks
Ed.

That's what procmail does.

------
Put the following line into your ~/.forward file. This time, include the quotes (").
"|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/local/bin/procmail || exit 75 #myid"
where myid is your user identification. If you are not sure what your userid
is, try typing whoami

The man pages for procmail are very good, and you shouldn't have any problem.

I'm setting the follow-up to comp.mail.misc. This is not a Mutt question.

Plenty of procmail experts there.

A better group for this would be comp.mail.misc.

Thanks for your answers!
Sorry for the posting in the wrong place.
I thought procmail had to be on the server to be able to filter mail.
I have the filter you mention on my client (.forward) and I can
connect to the remote server via smtp, but no filtering. Not to worry
though, I'm reading the procmail man pages

Thanks again.
Ed.
