uploading frustrations
Netobjects 4 seemed to sorta fix the old problem of when you hit upload and
your connection times out or something, then hit cancel, its stuck forever
so you had to ctrl alt del to close Netobjects.
Now it eventually does cancel, it just takes like over a minute.
My question is why doesnt NOF work on the whole upload thing? I know that
most ftp software, if it initially cant connect, it will continously retry
to connect. Nof is like if you dont connect on the first try, you are hung
there for a long period of time. It is very frustrating as a user, and Im
sure some fanciful programing on NOF's part can fix this problem.
Just a suggestion. Anyone else have frustration with this?
thanks

Hi Jay,
Did you see my post from last Tuesday? Here it is again in case your
newsreader missed it:
We actually HAVE been working on the upload thing. :-) The trick is
that we also work on other things, so we can't always do everything at
once. We did revamp a number of the features in the upload code when we
released version 4.x which fixed a number of the "hang" problems in
3.x. One of the problems in 3.x is that we didn't have a time out
feature at all. This was added in 4.0 so that it will time out
eventually. However, in 4.0 we had some trouble that the time out was
set for to short a time and our customers were experiencing trouble with
files not being uploaded because the server wouldn't respond in time.
We changed the time out period for 4.01 to help eliminate these errors.
However, there is still not a feature to set this time out length
yourself, nor is there a resume feature. Remember, NetObjects Fusion is
not primarily designed as an FTP client; it is designed to generate
HTML.
If there are features in an FTP client that you really like and you want
that control, what you can do is publish your site locally to your hard
drive. Then, using the FTP client of your choice, you can connect to
your server, and upload the files as you like. In fact, I usually
publish my sites this way myself, because the FTP clients give me more
control over what I push to the server than NetObjects Fusion's built-in
feature can--and typically a local publish--which only has to copy pages
locally, will go a lot faster than a remote publish.
Hope this helps,
