CORBA and firewalls

  1. Default CORBA and firewalls

    Hi,

is there any way to specify the ports a CORBA application will use
to allow CORBA access thru a firewall? I'm using here the built-in
    Java ORB and omniORB 4.0.2.

My experience is that besides the corbaloc port 2809, applications
seem to allocate ports rather arbitrary so I can't disable iptable
based port filtering for these as I would like to.

    So long,
    Thomas

I'm looking at how to setup iona (E2A 5.1) through a firewall.

One way of doing it is to limit the ports assigned by iona for tcp
    client/server communication.

IONA documents a parameter for setting a port range for use, e.g.

    policies:iiop:server_address_mode_policyort_range = "5000:6000";

I've tested it by adding it in the configuration file for iona, but
found it to have no effect.

Anyone with experience on using this parameter?

    JM

Your configuration change looks ok to me - did you restart the
server to pick up the new configuration? If you still can't get
it to work, I'd suggest emailing our Customer Support department
at support@iona.com along with the problem and all relevant
    technical information (compiler, platform, etc).

    Thanks for the reply.

The server has rebooted after changing the parameters.

I'm expecting that it should be possible to read the new setting with itadmin.

What command can be used in itadmin to read it out?

    You should use:

    itadmin variable show policies:iiop:server_address_mode_policyort_range

If you're not in the mood for typing such a long command, use instead:

    itadmin namespace show policies:iiop

and the variable and its value should appear in the output.
