Default Compression and CORBA: ZIOP

Hi,

The last year Remedy IT, Telefonica, and IONA have worked together on adding
compression to the CORBA specification. This effort is known as ZIOP. The
upcoming 1.6.6 release of TAO will have an implementation that matches the
latest proposal specification.

The implementation in TAO works but does not check all policies at runtime
yet. The most important implementation restriction is that we don't
guarantee
interoperability until ZIOP has been adopted as standard by the OMG. Read
the release notes of the upcoming TAO 1.6.6 how you can enable ZIOP when
compiling TAO.

We want to ask you as user to have a look at the proposal and give us
feedback. You can obtain the latest version of the proposal from
http://download.theaceorb.nl/ZIOP.pdf. We will update this document
frequently given the feedback we receive. Please send the feedback directly
to Johnny Willemsen <jwillemsen at remedy dot nl>.
