Default Strange ODBC decimal numbers problem

Hi,
We encounter the following problem:
A vb application (VB5) accesses an Oracle 8 database on a linux server.
The oracle client is 9.2.0.1.0.
The MDAC 2.6 (i think) is installed on the client.

A table contains a numeric field with 2 decimal digits: number(8,2)
When accessing this field with sqlplus (oracle) or excel via msquery :
evrything is OK.

But accessing this field (or any decimal field)
via ODBC
through VB or Crystal
report the field appears as 10*fields (VB) or with 00 as decimals
(Crystal).

When using OLEDB with crystal everything is OK.

This seems an ODBC Problem (NOT ORACLE).

The question is : which is the faulty DLL , is reinstalling an older
MDAC better??

Thanks for any help
