Because there are so many different peripherals it means the developers has to spend more time testing and debugging for every different device thus "wasting development resources". The Unreal engine was famous for horrible performance on 3Dfx cards. You don't have that problem with a console. But then for someone who refuses to comprehend that console sales are exploding through the roof and for the first time ever the market is supporting three consoles yet you somehow think consoles won't last much longer. Your logic, as usual Eep, has no basis in fact just you flaming hope and ignorance. |

WTF? When Unreal was released the only practical way to play it was in Glide on Voodoo cards. It wasn't until the GeForce cards came out a few years later that the performance crown went to D3D, but that didn't stop 3DFX cards performing well. -- Andrew. Slightly different I know but I play many of my old SNES, NES and Mega Drive games on my XBox. -- Stoneskin [Insert sig here] |

You're right, I realized I mentioned the wrong card the moment I shut the computer off. My point still stands, I couldn't play any Unreal engine based games because my video card could barely play them. It really ticked me off. Just one more reason I'm starting to play more console games. I would never give up on PC gaming, though. I love FPS and RTS games too much. |

You play more console games now because 5 years ago you could't run Unreal? Wow, talk about holding a grudge. -- Andrew. To email unscramble nrc@gurjevgrzrboivbhf.pbz & remove spamtrap. I'm still buying new games for my PS2. I got my PS2 christmas 2000. Lets take a PC from 2000 and see how far we get running a modern games on it. I suspect by the time you've finished "upgrading" it you'd have nothing left of the original machine. (and it would have cost much more than my PS2) |

It's an advantage for the gamers too. Instead of games getting slower and slower on their aging PC hardware, console games get faster and bigger each year as the hardware is better exploited. |

I just *had* to play Halo. I picked up a Gamecube a few months later. I just became tired of upgrade the video card and downloading drivers all the time. I used to be a PC gaming snob like half this group, then I realized there were some damn good console games out there. |

For the PlayStation 3, Sony are still planning to retain both PSOne and PS2 legacy software compatibility from the last announcement I saw on the matter. Regards Mario |

Nobody claims the PC is a cheap way of enjoying gaming, but for me the extra price is worth it. BTW, when you are talking about the cost of hardware, don't forget to factor in the ridiculous costs of console software. -- Andrew. To email unscramble nrc@gurjevgrzrboivbhf.pbz & remove spamtrap.
