| Those messages popped up a few days ago and have continued, even though recent tests deliver the mail properly. What's going on and how does one STOP these messages from getting pushed out to some unknown hotmail server? The full message resides in the <snip>...</snip> below. <snip type="message_to_master"> This is a delivery status message from the electronic mail server at 000.000.000.000. A message appearing to originate from your address has been delayed during delivery. Message details: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Originally submitted: 10 Aug 08, 21:40:27 Originator address: A valid email address @ a_valid_domain . com Message's subject: Re: Another simple test... Message's ID: <000000000000$000a00a0$00ff000@gold> After 3 hours, the following addresses had delivery problems: a-valid-email-address @hotmail.com [Temporary failure - still trying to deliver] The server will continue to attempt to deliver your message to any addresses showing temporary errors. You do not need to take any further action at this time - this message is for your information only. </snip> 1) Recent tests indicate that mail goes out properly. 2) These old messages keep trying to get delivered. How do we stop the delivery attempts? 3) Mercurys and Mercuryp are the ONLY in operation. Thanks for any help, suggestions, comments. -- Jim |

| Ok. <shrug> On to another question. When handling multiple domains, is there a way to get the SMTP server to identify itself as the domain the server that handles the email that it's coming from? For example, if there's a mail.example.net and also another domain called mail.example.com and IF email addresses exist like: jim @ example.com jim @ example.net When I send out the email from the mail.example.com server, how do I configure the server to respond from that respective domain as opposed to the mail.example.net domain? -- Jim Carlock Natural Cure For Pink-Eye (Conjunctivitis) http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...nctivitis.html |

| "Evertjan." replied... >[please always quote on usenet] OK. >[and please start e new thread with a adaequate subject line] The thread is still about that [Temporary failure... ] Jim Carlock previously asked... : When handling multiple domains, is there a way to get the SMTP : server to identify itself as the domain the server that handles : the email that it's coming from? : : For example, if there's a mail.example.net and also another : domain called mail.example.com and IF email addresses exist : like: : : jim @ example.com : jim @ example.net : : When I send out the email from the mail.example.com server, : how do I configure the server to respond from that respective : domain as opposed to the mail.example.net domain? And the SMTP (sending the email to other servers) ends in failure. I think it's because I don't understand how Mercury handles multiple domain names, but I need some help here. MercuryS and MercuryP are running. MercuryP seems to work OK, but it is NOT what I really expect from a POP3 server that claims to handle multiple domains. For instance, reading through the documentation indicates that mail accounts get configured without the domain name, so I configured it to employ a catchall@example.com and a catchall@example.net as follows: DM=catchall example.com DM=catchall example.net If I only could organize the folders for the accounts in a way that makes a more formal folder structure for organization... I wish I had more time to figure this out. Thanks for your attempts to help Evertjan. -- Jim Carlock More Than Five Senses? Many Human Minds Know More.
