[ANNOUNCE] Tk-Zinc 3.302

  1. Default [ANNOUNCE] Tk-Zinc 3.302

The latest release of Tk::Zinc has been released on the CPAN last
    week-end.

This release features mainly bugs fixes. The installation procedure
have been enhanced for the window / activestate environment.

We also set up a bugzilla and a CVS database all documented on our wiki
web site at www.tkzinc.org (the site also contains documentation, a
    mailing list, screenshots ...)

[This release also enhances the python binding. It also contains a
simple C++ binding (intuilab contribution) hidding the use of the tk
lib for C++ developpers. .. well I know I am here in a perl-tk user
    group]

    Feedback welcome!

    ------------- as a reminder ------------------------------
TkZinc (historically called Zinc) widget is very similar to Tk canvas
in that they support structured graphics. Like the canvas, TkZinc
implements items used to display graphical entities. Those items can be
manipulated and bindings can be associated with them to implement
interaction behaviors. But unlike the canvas, TkZinc can structure the
items in a hierarchy, has support for scaling and rotation, clipping
can be set for sub-trees of the item hierarchy, supports muti-contour
curves. It also provides functions from openGL (when compiled with it),
such as color gradient, antialiasing, transparencies and triangles
item. The item set is quite powerful and includes field specific items
    for Air Traffic systems.

Using Activestate binaries (not that I use Tcl anyways).
The current version is 8.4.10.0 but Tk::Zinc expects 8.4.9.0

Since I had a much older version 8.4.3 - I upgraded but 8.4.9.0 is not
    available.

It has been a few years since I've played with Zinc. At that time - I had
instability problems (i.e. crashes) on Linux RH7.2/7.3. Your windows version
is awesome - especially the simple install procedure! Thanks for all your
hard work. This is a great addition to the Tk toolkit (to be redundant :-) )

    Hello Jack,

in fact this bug was reported on our bugzilla (bug #25) by some other
canadian the 20th, and solved the 24th of June by Patrick.

An updated release of the .msi have been released the same day, and
    solve the problem you mentionned.

I do agree with you that Patrick did a great job in enhancing the
distribution process of TkZinc. as the toolkit is mainly in C, plus
many use of openGL libraries, it is quite a hard work to make it
available on any linux host, winXP (and also MacOSX with fink) and with
three major scripting language: perl, tcl and python.

I just hope now that with opening more largely the cvs and creating a
bugzilla we will get more feedback to enhance even more TkZinc.

    cheers,

    christophe

I just tried going to that site, and all it tells me is
"coucou re coucou" ... possibly hacked?

Hopefully, it seems due to some mis-configuration and automatic restart
of the http://www.tkzinc.org server the 1st July.

(BTW, having no news reader ready to use, I do only episodically read
    the newsgroup on google-groups...)

    Cheers,
