New Pine version "unsorts" folders

  1. Default New Pine version "unsorts" folders

In the new Pine version when I sort the messages in
a folder, Pine "unsorts" them back when I leave the
folder. How do I turn off this annoying behavior,
making the sort command stick like it used to?

The "$" sort command in Pine does not alter the mailbox in any way (and
never has); it merely alters the order in which messages are displayed in
that Pine session. In other words, "$" is a viewing command, not a
    mailbox management command.

You can set the default sort in Pine by using the "S" "C" command from the
main menu to get to the configuration screen, then scrolling down to the
    "sort-key" setting.

I suspect that the "sticking" behavior that you expected is actually the
sort-key setting, and that somehow you inadvertantly changed it to the
default arrival sort. If so, then setting sort-key should fix things for
    you.

Pine forgets about the sort method that you used for a mailbox as soon as
you close it, there is nothing you can do about this, so the only thing
that you can do is to have Pine sort the folder when you open it. You can
    do this in two ways:

    * You can have all your folders sorted in the same way by pressing M S C
and setting your "sort-key". This will make ALL folders to be sorted
    in the same way, or

    * You can have special sort orders for some folders. In this case press
M S R O, and set the sort key of any specific folder that you want to.

    I hope this helps.

(Also note that if you sort a folder, and the resave all messages to that
folder again, e.g. by using aggregate operations, the next time that you
open that folder it will be in the sort order you left it in. This is like
cheating, because this does not take into account any new messages that
may have arrived to that folder between sessions, but you will not have to
sort it. However, fancy thread interface will not work unless you sort the
folder by thread first, so if this is your case, you do not gain anything
    by doing this)
