This is a discussion on empty titles, empty subjects and empty body in PINE within the Pine forums in Other Technologies category; Hullo, I'm for months with an intensive problem under Pine: sometims I see blank news sender, subject, and body when pressing enter; I don't know if this is related to a re-open problem in Pine, but I can't read using this client anymore; any tip is welcome. | Maybe if nobody had any answer to my question, can someone give me the way how I can report a suggestion for the Pine crew? or tell me which other news client I should use instead of it who doesn't had similar problems as below: On Fri, 1 Jun 2007, Aldo wrote: > Hullo, > > I'm for months with an intensive problem under Pine: > sometims I see blank news sender, subject, and body when pressing enter; > I don't know if this is related to a re-open problem in Pine, but I can't > read using this client anymore; > any tip is welcome. > > V. 4.64 (.deb) > > Aldo. > > > |

In the past, the pine developers were quite active here, but now that they are working on the pine successor alpine, they are more active on that front. So I'd say, try out alpine (to be got from <ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/alpine/>) and if needed, post your questions to the alpine-alpha list (subscribe by sending a completely empty message to <alpine-alpha-subscribe@mailman.u.washington.edu>). YMMV BTDT and it just seemed clunky after being used-to using Tin and Pico. Seems like the situation was a new (not just to me) ISP and Tin wasn't up and running yet. Tin and Pico are naturals for Pine-heads for messing with news. I've been using Tin with Pico for the text editor for over 12 years and so no reason to switch. As long as Panix keeps my Bash shell account going... ![]() If this is what you were asking about and need more details about Tin this is as good of a newsgroup as any. ![]() Over on a.o.linux, Pan is slightly more commonly used than Tin. | Hi, the problem is resolved: the reason for the empty subjects and senders etc, was a minimal timeout setting of the newsgroup provider for my ISP: they had set it to 30 seconds, now it have been increased until 180 secs; so this give me probably time enough to read and answeer a news :-) Grtnx, thanx for suggestions, will havbe a look at AlPine anyway.
