LDAP server failed

  1. Default LDAP server failed

I am using Alpine 2.00.... We are trying to set up a LDAP server which is
currently in the testing phase. When I try to connect to search with
Alpine we receive the following error:

    [LDAP server failed: Protocol
error: historical protocol version requested, use LDAPv3 instead]

Is there any way to force Alpine to use LDAPv3 instead of the "historical"
LDAP version? I am using the Windows pre-built Alpine 2.00 version.

    Thank you!

    John

Does anyone have information on this problem we are having?

Any information on this post? I posted it back in late August and no
replies. Anyone have any information on how to make this work with Alpine
    2.00?

Note that using the LDAP directory works with Alpine 2.00 on a Linux
system. Using Alpine (with the same settings) on a Windows XP box it is
displaying the error listed above. Any assistance?

    Thank you!

More information on this problem. It appears that Alpine 2.00 for Windows
uses LDAPv2 instead of LDAPv3. I have confirmed this by running Alpine
2.00 on a Windows XP Pro and Vista box. It does not matter which one is
used, Alpine gives the same error.

In the discussion list for Alpine, someone else figured out what was
happening where Alpine is using version 2 of LDAP. I have not been able
to find a way to force Alpine to use LDAPv3.

    Any ideas?

    John
