Close.

In point of fact, *THE* reference work is the 2003 survey paper
by Moler & Loan, "Nineteen Dubious Ways to Compute the
Exponential of a Matrix, Twenty-five Years Later", which includes
a revision of the 1978 paper.

Everling's algorithm in PL/I (ref. 50) is based on Liou's paper.
