Getting RDz

This is a discussion on Getting RDz within the pl1 forums in Programming Languages category; From time to time there have been discussions about acquiring copies of the PL/I for Windows compiler and the fact that you need to but the ENTIRE product (including COBOL, CICS emulator, etc). In the IBM-MAIN group, there was just a post about buying RDz from "resellers" - which was something that I had never heard of. It said to look for the part number of D61EULL. I did a quick google search and the first site listed was http://www.lasercs.net/d61eull-ae.html which seems to be selling the entire RDz product for 2,268.00 I know that still isn't for under $1000 which ...

Default Getting RDz

From time to time there have been discussions about acquiring copies of the PL/I
for Windows compiler and the fact that you need to but the ENTIRE product
(including COBOL, CICS emulator, etc).

In the IBM-MAIN group, there was just a post about buying RDz from "resellers" -
which was something that I had never heard of. It said to look for the part
number of D61EULL.

I did a quick google search and the first site listed was
http://www.lasercs.net/d61eull-ae.html

which seems to be selling the entire RDz product for
2,268.00

I know that still isn't for under $1000 which is what many customers would like,
but it is certain much less that $10k or even $5/6K.

I know nothing about this vendor (or its "add-on" costs) and I didn't check out
the variety of vendors selling that "part number", but I did think this MIGHT be
of interest to some here.

Before you going to buy RDZ I will advice you to contact IBM for
asking for a evaluation license. Esspcially, If you want to use
the system z releated feature, it may be helpful to get support
from IBM for configuring the host part of the product.

Jochen is right: Getting the system z related features to run is almost
impossible without support. If you only want to use only the local
compilers, installation is very easy, but you will need a quite
powerfull machine with GBs on free disk space. The question is, why you
have to spend loads of money for these system z features (in which the
true strengths of RDZ lies) if you only want to compile PL/1 or COBOL
programms for Windows? But this question was discussed earlier in this NG.

Thomas
