SPS 2003 restore problem ("The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the config database")

  1. Default SPS 2003 restore problem ("The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the config database")

    OK..where do I start:

I have SPS 2003, with web on one server SQL 2000 on another server. I wanted
to move my SPS databases from the SQL 2000 server to a new SQL Server 2005
server. I have SQL and SPS backups of all SPS and config databases.

I followed KB 894164 without any luck, tried the "create a new config db and
restore the portal" approach but no luck so having wasted half a day I
decided to give up and go back to the original configuration.

I restored the 3 SPS and the config database on the original SQL 2000 server
(I re-connected the approriate SQL Server when it was needed). Anyway, it
all looks OK, Sharepoint Central Admin seems to show correct portal
information. However, as soon as I navigate to the portal I get the
    following message:

"The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the config database."

It is most likely that I've screwed-up the web site definition from an IIS
perspective. I'd just like to be able to create a new web site and restore
these DB's to the new site and then I can rename the site etc. from there.
I'm not a Sharepoint guru so any help with the error I'm getting or with a
workaround would be v. much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Richard

Anyone? Think I might just rebuild this app in ASP.Net 2.0....
